the experiment
Inside the laboratory, we see the scientists experimenting on the woman being put through the cylinder, while a mountain of computers record and monitor every heartbeat.
the oscilLator
As the scientists turn on the radar oscillator, the prism energy attracts butterflies into the darkened laboratory.
hive of electricity
Hexagonal pods containing scientists, using technology to create electricity from the air. This busy hub is imagined like a beehive, complete with a honey-tinted colour palette.
nude scientist
The nude scientist applies radiation to her experiment: in this case the tiny people in the miniature city. Created circa 2002.
space lab
This mammoth space laboratory is constantly orbiting in space, a planet in its own right, and a destination to anyone in need.
moonage daydream
On the surface of the moon, a retro-futuristic modernist city is sprawling, extending out in long corridors from the huge hexagonal tower. The few brave people are starting to explore their new environment.
life on mars
Created for New South Wales regional gallery Casula Powerhouse's Giant Leap show, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of man landing on the moon. This piece was exhibited alongside seven other Gorst space-themed collages, and was selected by Art Guide Australia as one of the Top 5 Exhibitions to see in the nation. Modernist architecture of Oscar Neimeyer is mixed with iconic images of Uluru and the telecommunications tower in Canberra, to resonate with Australian viewers, on this Mars-like environment.
spa away from home
Floating high in space, the women are enjoying their relaxing spa, looking out to their home planet Earth, without a care in the world.
ASTRONAUT OVER L.A.
One of the earliest collages of Gorst's career, and one of the first to be purchased.

the visitors

rings around pluto
poolside on neptune
A shot of adrenaline: this fun piece sees rollercoaster rides reimagined as rings around Pluto (inspired by the rings around Saturn).
the great lake
cosmic beginnings
A lone adventurer on an icy and mountainous surface, finds the birthplace of the planets: a mouth hiccuping the new-born worlds into the cosmos.
